Apache Junction
The City of Apache Junction lies about 30 miles east of Phoenix, easily accessible to and from the Phoenix area via the Superstition Freeway. In addition to a beautiful climate and near year-round sunshine, Apache Junction lies at the entrance to two of the most popular recreational areas frequented by Phoenix area locals, the Salt River Lakes and the Superstition Wilderness Area. Located in the rugged Tonto National Forest, Canyon Lake is just 14 miles northeast of downtown Apache Junction, while Apache and Roosevelt Lakes are just a little farther distant. In addition, there are 34 hiking and equestrian trails in the adjacent Superstition Wilderness Area. After 26 months of construction, Mercy Gilbert Medical Center staff and area residents welcomed Gilbert's first full-service hospital. This four-story, acute-care facility opened on June 5, 2006 with 92 private rooms. Plans are currently being made to grow the Center’s bed capacity to 400 as community needs increase. Mercy Gilbert offers a broad spectrum of care including an Emergency Department, a full range of surgical services, women's services, imaging (including MRI and CT scans), cardiac services, and cancer/oncology services. The Mercy Gilbert Medical Center was named in honor of the hospital’s sponsoring organization, the Sisters of Mercy.The hospital is located on a 100-acre campus near the brand new Loop 202. |

'Money' puts Mesa among best cities More jobs and infrastructure are on approach to Williams Gateway Airport. The Williams Gateway Airport Authority has signed an agreement with Reliance-Williams Gateway LLC to develop 52 acres of non-aviation land at the corner of Sossaman Road and Velocity Way. Officials said this development could one day house 1,500 new employees. The authority also inked a lease agreement with Reliance Cos., allowing for the development of more than 500,000 square feet of new buildings, including the 50,000 square-foot spec office/warehouse structure on the property’s first 4.2 acre lot. Construction on the multitenant building is expected to begin early next year and take about nine months. The airport is owned and operated by the Williams Gateway Airport Authority, which includes the Gila River Indian Community and the municipal governments of Gilbert, Mesa, Phoenix, and Queen Creek. Tempe
